Former Mayor Xavier Suarez Has Eyes On Dade Commission (CBS4)
Behavior of Miami’s New Mayor Sparks Criticism, Worry and Snickers(LA Times; 12/12/1997)

Alerted recently that the Herald was about to publish a negative story about his administration, Suarez was driven to the newspaper’s downtown offices in the wee hours of the morning dressed only in a terry-cloth bathrobe.

Mayor Loco aka The Midnight Rambler (Matt Meltzer; Miami Beach 411)

Could anyone come up with a more appropriate name for a slimy politician? Xavier Suarez, or Mayor Loco, or the Midnight Rambler, is not only one of the most corrupt civic leaders this city has ever seen, he is considered by some to be certifiably nuts. Suarez, the first Cuban-born mayor of the City of Miami, served from 1985-1993, as the city deteriorated from crime, poverty, and fiscal mismanagement.

The X-Man Returns (Francisco Alvarado; Miami New Times; 10/21/2004:

Miami Commissioner Johnny Winton has trouble understanding how anyone can take Xavier Suarez seriously. “He brought this city to its knees!” Winton cries. “He is an absolute opportunist, not to mention an irrational and dangerous man!” From his downtown Miami business office, an incredulous Winton recalls that Suarez had journalists all over the country, from New Times to the New York Times, contemplating the possibility he’d lost his marbles.
